Job Description:

We are looking a qualified and highly motivated individual to join its Data Warehouse Team to assist with the system design and implementation of applications and users of the data warehouse and business intelligence systems. The applicant must have a proven track record with requirements gathering; software evaluation; implementation planning, and testing. Background & experience in solid systems analysis and design, user interface design, web-based user interface design and programming, database design, and data modeling preferred. The development environment includes web based applications utilizing Microsoft .NET, IIS, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and DB2. The strongest candidates will be able to demonstrate skills and competencies in analysis and development of applications in the following focus areas: SOA principals, Object Oriented Design and Programming, SQL, .NET Framework, XML, XSLT, SOAP, WSDL, JavaScript, HTML, C#, and CSS. Microsoft SQL Server development experience (DTS, integration with .NET, etc.), Visual Basic, Visual FoxPro, Oracle Stored Procedures, GIS, Business Objects, and data warehouse experience is a plus. Applicant must have experience with Microsoft products (e.g., Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project). Prefer experience in web development utilizing ASP, HTML, .NET, C#, & SQL Server. Hardware platforms include an IBM Enterprise server running OS/390 for DB2, HP UNIX for Oracle, and Windows for web and application servers. Systems development experience in two or more environments is preferred. Understanding of operational systems including Records Management Systems, Incident Based Reporting, Mobile Data Computing, Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL), and Wireless Technology are bonuses. Position requires completion of core curriculum for a Baccalaureate level degree with a major in computer science, mathematics, business administration or related field & seven years experience in computer systems analysis & design. Position Title: SQL DBA

Duration: one year

Application Database Administrator, contractor will provide expertise in analysis, design, development, acquisition, installation, maintenance, programming, testing, quality assurance, configuration, performance tuning, monitoring, troubleshooting, problem resolution and recommendations for managing Microsoft SQL Server 2000 application databases and data as required to meet the expected levels of security and reliability for our users.

Contractor will provide expertise in the use of report writing tools, SQL queries, and data transformation systems for accessing, comparing and merging the data contained in the MS SQL applications.

Contractor will coordinate and guide Information Technology (IT) specialists regarding database management issues; provide expertise, consultation and support to IT staff, application and business experts, and other region and headquarters staff; access and resolve technical issues for project control applications and databases; recommend, develop and implement solutions for integrating project control data across systems.

Contractor will recommend and implement policies and procedures for data management and security for project control applications, servers and databases; be responsible for managing changes to the database schemas and application components of the production and development servers; ensure reliability of application and data model by thoroughly testing changes before implementation in production; provide data quality assurance by monitoring and controlling the production data environment.

Contractor will conduct needs assessments, requirements analysis and evaluate products related to conducting the duties of the Applications Database Administrator for project control applications.

Contractor will provide DBA support as directed and applicable to staff, project staff, and region and headquarters staff including, but not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Track, route and follow-up of project control applications DBA support requests through the problem resolution process.
  • Identify project control applications database problems as due to, or not due to, the use of project control or related applications and suggest remedies.
  • Diagnose and resolve customer problems.
  • Provide technical and application assistance to users related to database administration.
  • Advise users on the use of systems, hardware, and software as related to database administration.
  • Work closely with the Network Administration Group to coordinate requests for equipment and service as related to database administration.
  • Coordinate MS SQL Server project control database application installations, upgrades, and changes.
  • Coordinate group and user account privileges, Citrix access, or other permissions support needs related to securing the project controls SQL database applications.
  • Develop and implement SQL database and data quality assurance plans.
  • Perform SQL database and data quality control.
  • Maintain the project controls SQL database application configurations (e.g. production, test, sandbox, development, publication).
  • Create and implement SQL database application installation and upgrade plans.

Contractor will provide DBA support as directed and applicable to staff working with project control application vendors including, but not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Coordinate and work with vendors to identify and implement any SQL database schema revisions, as required, to resolving application issues, performing application upgrades, and maintaining security and reliability.
  • Coordinate with and/or oversee vendors responsible for installing server hardware and/or MS SQL Server 2000, or later, software for project control database applications.

Contractor will provide DBA support as directed and applicable for documentation of the project controls applications related to SQL Server configuration and SQL database administration processes, procedures, work flows and responsibilities including, but not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Review existing documentation, perform documentation gap analysis, and identify documentation needs.
  • Create and/or modify existing documentation for Applications & IT staff, IT Network Administration staff, region and headquarters staff.
  • Assist Applications & IT staff with documentation for defining project controls applications requirements, capabilities and limitations as driven by the SQL Server, database and application configuration and/or security models implemented.

Contractor will provide DBA support as directed and applicable to Applications and IT staff, region and/or headquarters staff responsible for administration of project controls applications including, but not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and administer project control applications.
  • Isolate application or system problems and coordinate resolution.
  • Assist in testing and verifying system changes
  • Prepare problem reports.
  • Maintain proper group and user permission levels as required to ensure the project control applications are secure and reliable.
  • Customize database and/or application configurations, menus, and report layouts.
  • Build, revise and enhance report layouts using application and/or third party tools.
  • Support different application environments (e.g. production, publication, development, sandbox, test)
  • Maintain consistency between application environments
  • Move project data between environments.
  • Review system logs and messages to identify events and errors.
  • Schedule and implement on-going application and database maintenance.
